…I’ll tell you where. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I’m talking about a little place called Athens.
The Terrapin Twilight Criterium in Athens, Georgia is just plain legendary. If you’ve been, you know… If you haven’t been, you’ve probably heard. It’s a barrage of good times, good beer, and I think they even have some bike racing sprinkled in there at some point. The aforementioned races are super intense, super fast and definitely no holds barred. The fans come out in droves and that mean tons of “motivational screaming”… I know I was cheering at the racers in between taking pictures and trying to keep track of who was attacking, breaking away and getting sucked back into the peloton. It really is a damn fun race to spectate. Athens, Georgia, home of the University of Georgia, provides a great backdrop for the race weekend, being a college town, the residents look for any excuse to get out and have a good time. I’ll definitely be attending this race again in the future… and maybe even entering the amateur race and seeing how bad I can get my ass kicked! Head over to the official Athens Criterium site for more info on the race, sponsors, details, etc.
